Ave
Maria ( Hail Mary ) is really a way of addressing the Virgin
Mary, as the Angel Gabriel did when he foretold Jesus' birth.
The angel's annunciation
to Mary is important part of the Christmas throughout history have
highly revered the Virgin Mary. Christians repeat angel's greeting
every time they say the prayer Hail Mary.
Ave Maria has
been set to music many times, but probably the most famous Ave
Maria was written by Austrian composer Franz - Schubert in 1825.
However, it was intended as a piece of secular, not sacred music.
During his short career, Schubert, using a Romantic style, wrote many
German songs called lieder. Most of these songs are based on
folk tales and literature of the time. Schubert composed the music of Ave
Maria to accompany a portion of Walter Scott's The Lady of the
Lake. The song, called Ellen's Song III, is a prayer to the
Virgin Mary in German.
